Test vocab knowledge with empty spaces
How to create English worksheets with blank spaces?
This worksheet generator creates worksheets with blank spaces for English learners to fill in with their own answers. You click on a word in a piece of text and that word will then appear in brackets. There will be space to write the answer. The great thing is that you can create these worksheets for any text that you want.
This is a fantastic resource for English learners of all levels. It allows you to create worksheets based on texts that the learner is already familiar with, or that are particularly challenging for the learner. This way, you can focus on the words and phrases that the learner finds most difficult, and get extra practice with them.
To create worksheets, simply click on a word in the text that you want to create a worksheet for. The word will then appear in brackets, with a space for students to fill in their own answer. This worksheet is very versatile as it can be used for many different situations like English grammar, vocabulary as well as testing comprehension. You can also choose the font and size of the text as well as the title for the worksheet.
Blank Space Examples
A simple example could be I like ______ to music at home (to listen). Here, for example, you can decide whether the student must answer in the infinitive (to listen) or the present participle (listening).
Another example could be: I like playing sport which becomes I like playing ____ (sport). The student would then be prompted to provide a sport, so a correct answer could be I like playing netball (sport).
A more advanced example might be: I like listening to music which becomes I like listening to ________(music). The student can then fill in a type of music so it becomes I like listening to classical music (music).
An example of using this for grammar would be with pronouns.
I like talking to him which becomes I like talking to ________ (him) where the students need to replace the pronoun with a different pronoun. It's a very versatile resource as it is very open and does not have fixed answers.
